What you can expect to receive…

  • You will leave the group feeling supported, contained, and seen in your parenting. You will have the opportunity to develop a greater support network with other caregivers in the group.

  • You will learn practical communication skills for engaging your kids on these topics, specifically, as well as generally in your day to day.

  • Through new language formation and exploration, you will form new ways to attune to your children and see life through their lens, creating deeper and long-lasting connections.

  • You will learn how to set and hold firm and healthy boundaries for your kids that foster deeper relationship.

  • You will learn how to hold tension with polarizing topics for the sake of creating healthy dialogue and discourse in an increasingly divided world.

  • You will gain a greater understanding and awareness of current challenges facing your kids today.

A Typical Group:

In each session (not including the first and last sessions), you’ll receive about 30 minutes of teaching on the hot topic and about 60 minutes of processing and guided exploration into how this is impacting you and your family.

Hot Topics Include:

Social Media (video games, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Meme app, Be Real, etc.)

Depression/ Anxiety (self harm, suicidal ideation, isolation, social anxiety, school shootings, etc.)

Drug/ Alcohol Abuse (statistics, addiction, dissociating/numbing, etc.)

Identity (sexual identity and gender identity, etc.)

Sex and Relationships (talking about sex, pornography, dating, privacy, sexual identity, etc.)

Faith (I am not “religious” like my parents, exploring the why, etc.)

Meet your facilitators

CJ and Lindsey Rithner, Parent Group Facilitators with ReStory Counseling.

CJ and Lindsey Rithner have been married for seven years and have two kids together. CJ is a Licensed Professional Counselor that specializes in working with adolescents and their families and Lindsey is a trauma-informed care provider.

As houseparents to teenage girls at an alternative high school, every day for 3.5 years they navigated the hot topics teens face on a daily basis. The girls came from very hard circumstances, and CJ and Lindsey were able to see first hand what they believe so strongly: healing comes through vulnerably entering another person’s story.

This experience deeply informed their understanding of trauma and abuse, teenage issues, severe mental health issues, substance use, addiction, attachment, case management, developmental disabilities, etc. Trained in TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) and foster-adoptive care, CJ and Lindsey are passionate about equipping parents with tools and language around the issues teens and adolescents face today.

With a curious and inviting spirit, they seek to help parents build their relationships with their kids through open conversation, intentionality, and play.
