The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation, and go to the grave with the song still in them.
— Henry David Thoreau
A true friend freely advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably.
— William Penn

Something in the hearts of men knows we need other men, and yet far too often we find ourselves journeying through this life in quiet desperation and alone. When it comes to true masculine community, we have lost our way.

Men together often default into competition, measuring each other up, comparison and shame. The questions, "Do I have what it takes?" and "Do I fit in?" plague the hearts of men and disqualify them from participation in friendship and community. Lonliness has more impact on men's health and happiness than anything else on earth.

The need for masculine community is core, and more often than not men just don't know how to boldly bring their hearts, needs and vulnerabilities without feeling weak, soft or less-than. The war on masculinity is won when men remain isolated and alone. This was not the life God designed for his Tribe of Men.

Lead by Restoration therapist, Chris Bruno, the "Tribe of Men" process group is designed to explore the complexities of masculine engagement, the core desires and fears men have with regard to connecting with others, and a deep, hard look at the stories that drive men apart rather than together. Participants will experience first-hand the challenges of showing up and being tender and present with other men, without foreclosing on what it means to truly be a strong and bold man.

There is nothing more exciting to me than the intersection of transformation and adventure. This is why I founded Restoration Counseling - a place where we daily engage the power of restoration and epic re-storying. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I specialize in men and masculinity, sexual addiction, trauma and abuse. My experience as a men’s therapist and my work with men at Restoration Project provide me a wealth of experience when navigating the landscape of a man’s heart.

Masculine engagement is one of my greatest passions, because I believe God designed men in relationship rather than in isolation. When men form deep, close, vulnerable and strong tribes, the world begins to shift and everything else seems to fall in place. Men with "brothers" are simply better men: they lead, love, sacrifice, hope and work in tandem with the greater Narrative. But when men are alone, they become hyper-focused on themselves, their work, their needs, and succumb to small stories that are unworthy of their lives.

Men become men through other men, and it is to the development of these deeper brotherhood relationships I have devoted my life. I wrote the Brotherhood Primer as part of this passion, and my work with Restoration Project's Brotherhood Project furthers this commitment. Join me on this crazy adventure.
