THE STORY OF OUR NAME AND LOGO
Restoration Counseling was founded on the belief that God doesn't make mistakes. When he thought us up, he had wonderful and beautiful things in mind. Yet we were born into a broken world whose brokenness affects all of us at the deepest levels. He's not interested in trashing his creation, but instead restoring us all to his original design. He will make all things new...again. That is the core of Restoration.
When it comes to our hearts and lives, we are convinced that God's story is truer than the world's story. Our logo is a cross-section of a tree...on the outside it's a grown-up tree showing strength and struggle. On the inside are the concentric rings of story- the ages and seasons, the ups and downs, the glories and pains we have experienced, making up the fullness of what that tree is today.
To re-story, we must first recognize where we have been in order to know where we are going. At Restoration Counseling, we're interested in restoring the heart on all levels.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
The foundation for our work is the intersection of theology and psychology. While everyone on our team comes from a different faith background and story, we all share a core belief in God the Father, Son and Spirit. We may have different expressions of this faith, but we all anchor ourselves in these ancient truths:
We believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
HISTORY OF RESTORATION COUNSELING AND RESTORATION PROJECT PARTNERSHIP
During the years of 1997-2007, while on staff with Cru in the Middle East, our founder and CEO Chris Bruno worked closely with hundreds of men of all ages as they struggled to come to grips with their own stories and masculinity. These kitchen table conversations created in him a deep desire to help men live fully and freely as God intended.
From 2007-2010, Chris completed an MA in Counseling Psychology at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, focusing his research and clinical experience on the masculine journey.
Deeply influenced by the training of Dr. Dan Allender and other like-minded authors and professors, Chris began to reframe the typical men’s literature from the 90’s that focused on sin management and Christian moralism into a journey of exploration, glory and freedom.
In 2007, Chris met Greg Daley, a pastor and outdoor experience expert. Together they imagined a ministry that would provide experiential space for men to combine critical content with a challenging context – a catalyst for relationship, reflection and restoration for the hearts of men. Initially starting with the flagship weekend experience called “2nd Adam: Adventures in Manhood,” Chris and Greg officially founded Restoration Project (RP) in 2010, just before relocating to Colorado.
In 2013, Chris released Brotherhood Primer and launched a movement of men who wanted to engage masculine friendships on a deeper level. In 2014, Man Maker Project: Boys are Born, Men are Made released, providing a road map for intentional fathering. In 2015, Lisa Russel joined staff and in 2016, Jesse French, increasing capacity and global impact significantly.
Restoration Counseling began as “Chris Bruno Counseling” in 2010 as a means of financial support and field experience for the launch of RP. However, it soon grew to a full-time business and included 3 Seattle School grads and an internship program by 2015. In early 2017, the Brunos purchased and renovated the new space to bring RP and RC more closely together and work within a common vision and direction, in two departments: therapy and praxis. It has always been the desire for RC to be a ministry-hearted business and RP a business-centered ministry.
We value you as an individual in the context of a team. We think team looks a lot more like a community than officemates. We celebrate one another, mourn with each other, and root for each other. You are safe here. The work of counseling can be isolating and lonely. We are committed to breaking through the isolation and bringing connection, relationship and togetherness to the work we do.
As a team, we value community time (regular prayer, check-in, and rhythms of play and retreat) and consultation (weekly).
STORY-work and becoming a restory practitioner
We will train you to be a story expert. You will learn how to weave faith and therapy together in a non-judgmental, unforced way. In your first quarter, you will graduate from the Restoration Institute, our in-house certification process to teach the “ReStory” modality Chris Bruno has developed over the years. We are looking for people who have both the heart-attunement and the business acumen to thrive in a creative and generative environment. If you have these building blocks, we will train you and develop you. This is why we don’t want your resume right now. We want to get to know you as a person before we talk about your credentials.
We believe profit and purpose can co-exist, and that meaningful work can earn money. You will be compensated competitively. We believe adults are adults, and no one wants to be micro-managed. We subscribe to the ideas of “participation age companies,” where we all participate in the business out of desire rather than expectation.
As a part of a respected, sought-after narrative therapy center, you will benefit from the reputation and referral base of Restoration Counseling. We will provide training for you to develop a personal platform, learn to network, and to equip you to strengthen your pipeline and attract your ideal client. As we all grow and develop, we all benefit.
All of our practitioners work on a competitive commission basis. Our other benefits include: ReStory Practitioner certification, in-house supervision, all business related expenses (accounting, marketing, office, website, client management systems, etc.), annual professional development stipend, weekly professional case consultation, and more.

What Do We Expect?
Because we value team, we ask you to participate in prayer, socials, consult, and business meetings consistently. This is not a requirement, but a desire to be together in the spaces and places where we find togetherness and growth.
Because this is a relational business and clients come from an experience of you, we ask you to leverage your greatest interests and passions to facilitate the community’s awareness of you, and for you to draw your ideal client. RC does have incoming clients, but everyone on our team participates in developing the client pipeline. The best team members have people lining up and asking to work with them because they have become known.
Because you are an adult, you can schedule your client hours whenever you want.
Together with you we will establish a reasonable weekly client load that fits both your needs and lifestyle and our team’s collaborative goals. We will be reviewing this weekly and monthly, helping you build and maintain a healthy practice as a part of the whole at RC.
Because you are a stakeholder, not an employee, you are in charge of your own schedule, including vacation, personal leave, and sick time (remembering client care and needs). We do not track vacation days, sick days, etc. Again, you are an adult and a professional. Take care of yourself and your clients, and we all do well.
You are a professional in your field. We expect you to care for your clients at the highest standards of care in the industry. We maintain professional and ethical standards that exceed those in our field, and every team member commits to pursue excellence in all areas.
